Driver injured when snow plow was struck by train
A city of Monona employee was seriously injured Feb. 13, when the snow plow he was operating was struck by a train.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dump truck versus train accident on West North Street, in Monona, at 11:54 a.m. According to a press release, deputies determined the driver was conducting snow removal operations when the vehicle was struck by an eastbound train containing five railcars. The city of Monona said the rail crossing was unmarked.
The driver of the dump truck was transported to Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wis., and later transferred to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis., for treatment of serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. The Monona Police Department, MFL Ambulance, Monona Fire Department and Canadian Pacific Rail Police assisted at the scene.
