The Prairie du Chien High School wrestling team hoists their hardware in Lodi Tuesday night, showing off their Sectional Championship plaque. By winning, the Hawks earned a berth in the Team State Duals, which will take place on Saturday, March 7 in Madison at the Fieldhouse. It is the first time in school history Prairie du Chien has qualified for the Team State Tournament. (Photo submitted)

The third time would prove to be a charm, as the Prairie du Chien Wrestling Blackhawks traveled to Lodi on Tuesday evening to Team Sectionals with a berth to the Team State Tournament on the line. In 2018, PDC was defeated by Lodi at Team Sectionals in the semifinal round and in 2019 PDC was defeated by GET/Mel-Min in the Team Sectional finals. This year would prove to be different. After advancing to Team Sectionals by virtue their regional victory on Saturday, PDC would have much to celebrate at Lodi!

In the semifinal round, PDC would toe the line against SWC foe Richland Center. From the beginning, it was all Blackhawks. PDC would win 11 of the 14 bouts, seven of them by fall (Jerrod Osterkamp, Ryder Koenig, Luke Kramer, Traeton Saint, Bradyn Saint, Tyler Hannah, Colten Wall), one by technical fall (Maddox Cejka), and three forfeits (Rhett Koenig, Matt Rogge, Brogan Brewer) en route to a 65-18 dismantling of the Hornets.

This would advance the Blackhawks to the final, as Lodi defeated Evansville/Albany in the other semifinal. This dual would not disappoint, with seemingly every point and every match making a difference. The dual started at 106#, where Rhett Koenig would take his opponent to sudden victory for a 4-2 win in a tense match. At 113#, Ryder Koenig would build a 6-0 lead before reversing his opponent to his back and getting a big third period fall. At 120#, Maddox Cejka would go for a big move off the whistle, but it was countered and Cejka was pinned. At 126#, Luke Kramer would score a major decision with a 10-0 win via a couple of takedowns, a reversal, and near fall points. At 132#, Kurt Wall would waste little time, taking his opponent down and pinning him in just 16 seconds to put the Blackhawks up 19-6. Lodi would storm back at the next three weights. At 138#, Matt Rogge lost by decision 6-0. At 145#, Chase Fisher lost by major decision 13-1, and at 152# Brogan Brewer was pinned as the score was now 19-19. Traeton Saint at 160# would stop the bleeding with a second period fall after building a 9-0 lead. At 170#, Bradyn Saint would have a nailbiter come down to the wire, as Saint secured a takedown in the last 20 seconds to win 5-4 to put the Blackhawks back up 28-19. Ben Riter was pinned at 182#. At 195#, Tyler Hannah would collect a first period fall. At 220#, Colten Wall would secure the dual with a third period fall to put the Hawks up 40-24. The Blackhawks elected to forfeit at 285# and win 40-30.

The Team Sectional Championship moves the Hawks on to the State Meet, which will be held on Saturday, March 7 in Madison at the Fieldhouse.
