The Prairie du Chien girls basketball team ended their season during a hard-fought battle against undefeated Platteville in the sectional semifinal game in Lodi on Thursday, March 5.

It was a game of runs as each time Prairie tied up the game or came within a point or two, Platteville would go on a run.

The Hawks came out strong, taking a 4-0 lead early in the first half. Platteville then went on a 9-0 run before Prairie responded on offense with a 2-point basket from Lily Krahn and a 3-point basket from Makenzie Knapp, tying the game at 9.

The Hillmen went on another 6-0 run when Macey Banasik hit a three from Abby Feye and Krahn had a layup. Allison Allbee also added to the scoring when she made two free throws, bringing the score to 18-16 with Platteville leading.

Platteville extended their lead to 26-16 with an 8-0 run with just a minute left in the first half. The Hawks were able to use that minute to cut the lead to six with Teagan Radloff getting an offensive board and making the put-back, along with Krahn getting a rebound on the defensive end and pushing the pull up the court for a 2-point jumper in the lane. The Hawks trailed 26-20 at the half.

With 11 minutes left in the second half, the Hawks tied up the game yet again when Radloff hit a 3-point basket from Allbee, putting both teams at 30 points.

The Hillmen scored the next 5 points before Radloff hit a 2-point jump shot and Krahn hit a 2-point basket from Knapp to put the Hawks down 35-34.

Platteville went on another 8-0 run before Feye found Banasik on the baseline for a 3-point shot. The Hawks trailed by 10 before Krahn hit a 3-pointer and had a steal for a fast break, resulting in a 2-point jump shot.

Prairie wasn’t able to cut the deficit to any less than five and lost with a final score of 49-44.

Six girls contributed to the scoring. Lily Krahn led with 22, Macey Banasik had 8, Teagan Radloff had 7, Makenzie Knapp had 3, and Abby Feye and Allison Allbee each had 2.
