Leon Carl Emil Hoth
Leon Carl Emil Hoth, 84, of St. Olaf, died Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at MercyOne in Elkader. Leon was born Feb. 6, 1936, on a farm in Clayton County to Willis and Emma (Bahls) Hoth. He was baptized June 7, 1936, and confirmed on April 10, 1949, by Rev. Kitterer, at E&R Church in Elkader. Leon attended Denmark Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Elkader High School in 1954. He lived and worked all his life on the family farm at 22248 Highway 13, near St. Olaf.
Leon was united in marriage with Joyce Walter on Sept. 16, 1958. Three daughters were born to this union. Leon loved driving tractor, caring for pigs and cattle and helping his son-in-law after he retired. Leon went fishing as often as time allowed with friends and grandchildren. He liked to play cards and spend time with family. Leon served on the Read Township Board of Trustees and was a member of Peace United Church of Christ.
Leon is survived by his wife, Joyce Hoth; three daughters, Leona Lisa Hoth of Decorah, Julie Ann Friederich of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Suzy Kay (Scott) Hilgerson of Elkader; seven grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Preceding Leon in death were his parents, Willis and Emma Hoth; and one sister, Iva Dean Wilker.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not have a public memorial at this time. A private graveside service will be held.
