Prairie du Chien sweeps Reedsburg 2
The Prairie du Chien Independent 18U baseball team swept visiting Reedsburg 2 in a doubleheader Friday at St. Feriole Island Ballpark.
Game 1
Zachary Mara was clutch at the plate with runners on base in the opener, driving in seven on two hits to lead Prairie du Chien past Reedsburg 2, 13-3.
Mara drove in runs on a double in the second, a walk in the third, a triple in the fourth, and a walk in the fifth.
Prairie du Chien put up six runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to an error on a ball put in play by Brady Russell, a walk by Conner Smith, and a triple by Mara.
Dylan Coleman was credited with the victory for Prairie du Chien. He went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out six and walking one.
Mara led Prairie du Chien with two hits in three at bats.
Reedsburg 2 collected seven hits on the day.
Game 2
It came down to the wire on Friday evening in the nightcap, with Prairie du Chien taking the victory on a dramatic walk-off single to beat Reedsburg 2 by a score of 5-4 in the five-inning contest.
The game was tied at four with Prairie du Chien batting in the bottom of the fifth when Chase Fisher singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run to gain the win.
Prairie du Chien took an early lead in the first inning as Kyle Quick’s sac fly scored one run.
After Reedsburg 2 scored one run in the top of the third, Prairie du Chien answered with one of their own. Reedsburg 2 scored when an error scored one run for Reedsburg 2.
Garett Young was the winning pitcher for Prairie du Chien. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out six. Fisher threw one-third of an inning in relief.
Grant Martin led Prairie du Chien with two hits in two at bats.
