The Prairie du Chien team displays their runner up plaque at the Babe Ruth State Tournament held at St. Feriole Island Ballpark.

Prairie du Chien hosted the Babe Ruth State Tournament at St. Feriole Island Ballpark from Aug. 7 through Aug. 11. The results are as follows:

Pool Play

The Prairie du Chien Independent 18U baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 10-6 loss to Cross Plains on Friday. Cross Plains scored on a single by Petzborn, a single by Lockwood, and a single by Meinholtz in the second inning.

Despite the loss, Prairie du Chien collected 12 hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Cross Plains had 10 hits on the way to victory.

Petzborn led things off on the hill for Cross Plains. He went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one.

Chase Fisher toed the rubber for Prairie du Chien. He allowed four hits and four runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three. Jon Nicholson and Maddox Cejka entered the game as relief, throwing three and two-thirds innings and one inning, respectively.

Grant Martin, Brady Russell, Ryan McGrath, and Conner Smith each collected two hits to lead Prairie du Chien. Prairie du Chien was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Smith had the most chances in the field with 13.

Cross Plains racked up 10 hits in the game. Sarbacker and Lockwood managed multiple hits for Cross Plains.

Second Game

Prairie du Chien fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 10-5 loss to Eau Claire 17U on Saturday. Eau Claire 17U scored on a single by Henry W. in the first inning, a single by Ashton C. in the first inning, a single by Will T. in the first inning, a double by Caleb G. in the second inning, and an error in the second inning.

Prairie du Chien tallied three runs in the sixth inning. Maddox Cejka and Colton Thompson powered the big inning with RBIs.

Eau Claire 17U scored three runs in the second inning.

Evan Z. was on the hill for Eau Claire 17U. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four and walking one.

Gaige Toberman was on the pitcher’s mound for Prairie du Chien. He lasted two innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out one and walking one. Garett Young, Thompson, and Cejka each contributed in relief for Prairie du Chien.

Ryan McGrath went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Prairie du Chien in hits.

Eau Claire 17U racked up 11 hits on the day. Eau Claire 17U was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Eric K. had the most chances in the field with seven.

Play-in game

Prairie du Chien had everything working on Sunday, winning big over Westby 8-2.

In the second inning, Prairie du Chien got their offense started. An error scored one run for Prairie du Chien.

Prairie du Chien put up four runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught by Prairie du Chien was led by Ryan McGrath, Maddox Cejka, Jon Nicholson, and Brady Russell, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Dylan Coleman was the winning pitcher for Prairie du Chien. He lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Zachary Mara threw one inning in relief.

Bodie D. took the loss for Westby. He surrendered two runs on three hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one.

Prairie du Chien collected eight hits. Grant Martin and McGrath each had two hits to lead Prairie du Chien.

Quarterfinals

Prairie du Chien cruised to an easy victory over Cross Plains 9-2 on Sunday.

Prairie du Chien got on the board in the first inning when Conner Smith doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Prairie du Chien scored four runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Prairie du Chien was led by Colton Thompson, Dylan Coleman, and Grant Martin, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Meinholtz was on the pitcher’s mound for Cross Plains. He surrendered five runs on one hit over one and one-third innings, striking out one. Ben C., Zloetter, and Lockwood each contributed in relief for Cross Plains.

Smith led Prairie du Chien with three hits in four at bats.

Semifinals

Prairie du Chien beat Eau Claire 17U 7-4 on Monday.

Prairie du Chien got things started in the first inning when Ryan McGrath singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

Jon Nicholson was the winning pitcher for Prairie du Chien. He allowed seven hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out two.

Evan Z. took the loss for Eau Claire 17U. He surrendered seven runs on eight hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

Prairie du Chien racked up eight hits on the day. Zachary Mara, Dylan Coleman, and Nicholson each collected two hits to lead Prairie du Chien.

Caleb G. went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Eau Claire 17U in hits.

Championship

A walk-off left Prairie du Chien on the wrong end of an 8-7 defeat to Viroqua on Monday. The game was tied at seven with Viroqua batting in the bottom of the ninth when Griffin Olson singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Prairie du Chien collected 12 hits and Viroqua had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

Prairie du Chien fired up the offense in the second inning when Garett Young doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Viroqua tied things up at seven when Mason Skrede hit a solo homer.

Skrede pitched Viroqua to victory. He surrendered no runs on no hits over one-third of an inning, walking none. Hunter Vikmeyer threw three innings in relief.

Zachary Mara took the loss for Prairie du Chien. He lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two and walking none.

Young started the game for Prairie du Chien. He surrendered seven runs on 11 hits over six innings, striking out three. 

Clayton Slack started the game for Viroqua. He lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs while striking out four

Viroqua hit three home runs on the day. Skrede went deep in the second and fourth innings. Andrew Wedwick put one out in the third inning.

Prairie du Chien saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Grant Martin, Dylan Coleman, and Colton Thompson each collected two hits to lead Prairie du Chien. Prairie du Chien was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Aden McClusky made the most plays with nine.

Viroqua racked up 13 hits. Olson, Wedwick, Skrede, Noah Mathison, and Evan Hubach all collected multiple hits for Viroqua.
