The MFL MarMac volleyball team is still searching for its first win, after losses to West Central and host Maquoketa Valley at a triangular on Sept. 8.

West Central won the first set of the opening game 25-13. The Bulldogs took the Blue Devils to the wire in set two, though, but narrowly fell 26-24.

Riley Moreland was a force at the net for MFL MarMac, racking up eight kills and three blocks—both team highs. She also had six digs and four assists, and completed seven of eight serves, including one ace. Anna Stoddard had three of the Bulldogs’ nine kills along with two blocks, while Grace Anderson tallied two kills and two blocks.

Lexy Johnson was the Bulldog leader in digs, with nine. Nine of her 11 serve attempts were successful, and two of them were aces. Miranda Lang picked up five digs and made all five of her serves. Lakota Morrissey had eight of the team’s 12 assists and was 4-4 serving, with an ace.

In the second game, Maquoketa Valley swept MFL MarMac 25-15 and 25-22.

Moreland again led the team in kills, with five, and had one block, six digs and four assists. In addition, she had a 6-7 serving game, including two of the team’s three aces. Kayden Gillitzer earned three kills and 10 digs, while Stoddard had one kill and one block. Johnson dug out 14 balls and made five of seven serves. Morrissey picked up six assists. Abby Schellhorn had a big serving game, making nine of 10 attempts, with an ace.

The Bulldogs will play twice this week, including a home match-up against Waukon on Tuesday, Sept. 15, then a game at Postville on Thursday, Sept. 17.
