Karen Sue Youngblut, 79, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at Guttenberg Care Center. 

She was born on Dec. 21, 1940, in Ft. Dodge, the daughter of Charles and Elaine Mattice.

Karen graduated from Fort Dodge High School. Karen met John Youngblut and was united in marriage July 9, 1960. From this union they had two sons, Chris and Adam. Karen received a master’s degree in Library science and taught at Maquoketa Valley, Jefferson and West Delaware schools before retiring in 1994. Karen had a beautiful voice and used this talent and sang at many weddings and St. Mary’s Church Choir in Guttenberg. She was a bleacher fan for the many sporting events of her two sons and later enjoying her grandson’s sports hardly ever missing a game. Karen enjoyed painting with many displayed proudly. Traveling with family and friends throughout the years especially skiing vacations in Colorado. Karen couldn’t say no to a stray animal whether it be a skunk, beaver or many beloved dogs. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking and potlucks at the river with family and neighbors. 

Karen is survived by her husband, John Youngblut; son, Chris Youngblut; grandsons, McKay (Andrea) Youngblut and Tate Youngblut; great-grandchildren, Reese and Boone Youngblut; sister, Patty Tedford and many other relatives and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Al and Mary; son, Adam in 1994 and a sister, Pam.
