Donald J. “Diz” Draka, 81, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at the Gundersen Health Center in La Crosse.

He was born May 3, 1939, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Charles and Marie (Tesar) Draka. He served in the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Lewis WA in the tank division. He married Joan Vondrum on Oct. 7, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven. Don worked as a part of the family business, Knapp Inc., in Prairie du Chien as a floor installer. He retired after serving 23 years at 3M Company in Prairie du Chien. He then was self-employed as a floor and tile installer for many years. Don was a member of the Campion Council Knights of Columbus. He loved fishing and being with his family. He was an excellent carpenter. His days were spent in his workshop building countless heirlooms for his family to cherish for generations to come. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan; his children, Kristine (Mark) Oehler, Lisa (Tom Wiemerslage) Draka, Denise (David) Wermund and Kevin (Misty) Draka; his brother, Robert Draka; his sister, Diane (Dwight) Boom; his grandchildren, Clarissa (Sean) Russell, Nathaniel (Tylar Howard), Tanner, Laura, Taylor, McKenzi, Kirsten, Lillian, Maya, Jack, Josiah and Layna. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Jean (Jerry) Crubel, and Ruth Draka; a nephew, Michael Draka; and a brother-in-law, John Cornwell.

A private family memorial Mass of Resurrection will be at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating, and interment with military honors will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
