Elizabeth 'Betty' Butteris
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Butteris, 94, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien.
She was born July 24, 1926, in Summit, the daughter of Bernard and Theresa (Toay) Coffey. She met her high school sweetheart, Virgil Butteris, and they later married on June 18, 1949 in Dodgeville. She became a beautician and held her cosmetology license for 64 years. She was also a talented seamstress and a lifelong member of St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish. Betty loved partnering with her husband Virgil in all their travels and activities that they participated in together.
She is survived by her two sons, Greg (Connie) Butteris and Jeff (Janet) Butteris; her grandchildren, Jerrod (Kristine), Jacob, Jessica (Nathan) Van Schyndel, Mali (Eric) Beine, Emily (Allan) Butteris-Hyland, Michael Butteris, and Katherine Butteris; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Angela in 1960; her brother, Robert James Coffey; and her sister-in-law, Rose.
Betty’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Prairie Maison and Bluff Haven. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien.
