The MFL MarMac girls basketball team is now 6-2, following wins against Kee and Postville and a non-conference loss at Waukon last week.

The Bulldogs took on Kee Dec. 15, coming away with a 53-48 victory. The Hawks had an early edge, up 13-12 after the first quarter and 28-25 at halftime. MFL MarMac went on a 15-11 run in the third quarter, though, to take a one-point lead heading into the fourth period. The Bulldogs then out-scored the Hawks 13-8 in the final minutes to claim the narrow victory.

Riley Moreland had yet another big night for MFL MarMac, turning in 25 points and eight rebounds, along with three assists, three steals and a block.

Miranda Lang added nine points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Grace Anderson contributed six points. Lakota Morrissey had five points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

MFL MarMac couldn’t keep the momentum going in its following game, a 58-42 defeat by Waukon on Dec. 17. The teams kept pace through the first quarter, with the Indians up just 16-15. However, the Bulldog offense managed just seven points in the second period, compared to 15 by Waukon, and went into the break down 31-22. The Indians added on to the lead in the second half, winning by 16 points on a night in which they out-rebounded the Bulldogs 25-14 and forced 21 turnovers.

Kayden Gillitzer was MFL MarMac’s points leader in this match-up, with 16, and also had two rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist. Moreland finished the night with 12 points, five rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal. Grace Anderson pitched in five points, four rebounds, two blocks and an assist.

The Bulldogs got back on track Dec. 18, charging past Postville 76-23. MFL MarMac shot a combined 45.6 percent from the field, while the Pirates managed to make just over 13 percent of their attempts. The Bulldog defense also kept Postville off balance by nabbing 24 steals.

Moreland gave MFL MarMac 16 points, to go with seven steals, five rebounds, four assists and a block. Anderson totaled 12 points and a steal, while Morrissey’s stat line included 11 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds. Off the bench, Hannah Bogdonovich tallied nine points, five rebounds, a block and a steal.

This week, the Bulldogs will play just once, hosting Central on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
