Eldon Frank Rahmiller, 77, of Iowa Falls, passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2020, surrounded by family while under hospice care. Eldon, son of Howard and Vera Oldfather Rahmiller, was born on Oct. 18, 1943, in Oelwein. He spent his childhood in Volga, and graduated from Volga High School in 1961. On Dec. 26, 1966, Eldon and Gayle Peterson were married at the First Baptist Church in Cresco. They had two sons, Ryan and Brad.

Eldon earned a Purple Heart while serving with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. Later, he graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor of arts degree and a master of arts degree in education. He joined the Ellsworth Community College faculty in Iowa Falls as the media specialist until retirement in 2001.

During this time, he became a skilled photographer. He loved to capture photos of politicians, travel, nature and, most of all, family. He enjoyed camping with his family in 20 different states, touring historical places and visiting national parks. He loved spending time with his family. At the age of 52, he ran Grandma’s Marathon with his son Ryan at Duluth, Minn. He continued to participate in 5K races and the Great Aloha Run in Honolulu.

Eldon was very interested in politics, history and current events. He attended every Democratic caucus beginning in 1972. He took his civic responsibilities seriously. He served on the Ellsworth Hospital Foundation Board, Friends of the Library Board, Robert Barlow Library Board and Vision 2020. He was a recipient of the Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship.

Eldon and Gayle were longtime active members of the First United Methodist in Iowa Falls. Eldon served on the trustees and church council.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gayle; son, Ryan (Amanda), and grandchildren Henry and Ella of Charles City; and son, Brad (Tammy), of Marshalltown.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Howard and Vera Rahmiller, and brothers, Fred (died in infancy) and Kenneth.

A private family graveside service will be held with burial at New Oregon Cemetery south of Cresco. A celebration of life will be held at the First United Methodist Church at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls.

Family requests memorials be sent to Mary Greeley Hospice, Ames,  or First United Methodist Church, Iowa Falls.
