Marilyn (Standorf) Moody
Marilyn Jean (Standorf) Moody, 77, of McGregor, Iowa, wonderful mother and grandmother, was taken from this world too early due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Great River Care Center in McGregor.
Marilyn was born July 9, 1943, to Lawrence and Lorraine (Otto) Standorf in Prairie du Chien. She attended Prairie du Chien schools and later attended University of Wisconsin in Platteville, earning a Bachelor of Science degree. Marilyn was united in marriage to Kirk Moody. Two children were born to this union. They later divorced. She had a very positive attitude even though she had CMT, a rare genetic muscle/neurological disease, that caused her difficulty with walking. She was able to live independently for as long as she could and adapt to her disorder due to her toughness. She always thought of everyone else besides herself. When her children were in school, Marilyn enjoyed going to every sporting event her kids were in and beyond to kings and queens softball games. She was an avid Packers, Cubs, and Bulls fan during the Michael Jordan era. Her other hobbies included feeding and watching the birds and reading books. She loved Christmas. When Marilyn was still working, instead of going on vacations, she would use her vacation pay and spend the majority of it on her family’s Christmases. Marilyn was a hard worker, teaching Head Start and then going to work at the Great River Care Center for 28 years until she could no longer work. She was a member of Swede Ridge Church.
Marilyn is survived by her two children, Mike (Tari) Moody of Ames, Iowa, and Kris (Jason) Eulberg of McGregor, Iowa; two brothers, Wayne (Edie) Standorf of Aurora, Ill., and Keith (Kathy) Standorf of Dodgeville; and four grandchildren, Mason, Madison, Michael and Meredith.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Lorraine Standorf; brother, Lawrence “Bud” Standorf; sister, Phyllis Acuff; sister in-law, Betty Standorf; and one brother-in-law, Bruce Acuff.
Marilyn decided in the ‘80s, due to her muscle disorder, to give her body to science. However, due to complications of COVID-19, she was not able to donate her body.
Memorials may be made to McGregor Public Library, Mar-Mac Rescue Squad and the Special Olympics of Iowa. Due to Marilyn’s wishes, there will be no services. She has touched many people’s lives with her kindness and positive attitude. She will be missed by many.
