Senior 182-pounder Bradyn Saint puts a leg ride in with a power half to score back points against his Darlington/Blackhawk opponent. Saint would win 22-5 by technical fall.

Sophomore 120-pounder Rhett Koenig locks up a double arm bar against his Iowa Grant/Highland opponent. Koenig would score a 12-1 major decision.

Sophomore 132-pounder Maddox Cejka uses an underhook against his Iowa Grant/Highland opponent looking to score a takedown. Cejka would win by fall in the second period.

On Friday night, the #6 D2 ranked Blackhawk wrestling team traveled to Iowa Grant/Highland for a quadrangular. In addition to IG/H, GET/MM and Darlington/Blackhawk were also in attendance.

The Hawk matmen, who won the SWC Conference Championship outright, were looking to avenge a loss to GET/MM from last year’s State Semifinals and to see where they stood against a very talented Iowa Grant/Highland squad.

In the opening dual, the Hawks squared off with GET/MM. The dual would start at 126#, where GET’s #1 ranked wrestler and returning State Placewinner would win by technical fall. However, the Hawks would rattle off seven consecutive wins with a major decision by Maddox Cejka, followed by pins from Luke Kramer, Cole Halverson, Matt Rogge, Chase Fisher, Brogan Brewer, and a technical fall from Bradyn Saint to take a commanding 39-5 lead.

GET would battle back with three pins of their own to cut the lead to 39-23 before Mason Baumgartner and Ryder Koenig would record falls.

In the final match, Rhett Koenig scored a major decision over a returning State Qualifier to secure a 55-23 win for the Blackhawks.

In match two, PDC would throttle Darlington/Blackhawk. The dual would start at 132#, where PDC would get five first period falls in a row to jump out to a big 30-0 lead. The pins came in succession from Maddox Cejka, Luke Kramer, Cole Halverson, Matt Rogge, and Chase Fisher.

D/BH would get a pin of their own at 170# before Bradyn Saint would record a technical fall at 182#.

D/BH would get two more pins at 195# and 220# before Jayden Johnson would record another first-period fall to push the lead to 41-18. D/BH would forfeit the next four weights to Mason Baumgartner, Ryder Koenig, Rhett Koenig, and Drew Hird. PDC would win big, 65-18.

In match three, PDC would have a tough test against the #10 ranked team in D3, Iowa Grant/Highland. The match started at 138#, where Luke Kramer would set the tone with a first-period fall. At 145#, Cole Halverson would keep his foot on the gas pedal and cruise to an 11-5 decision. At 152#, Matt Rogge would deck an SWC Clash Champion in the first period to keep PDC’s momentum. At 160#, Chase Fisher would keep the wins coming with a hard-fought 10-7 decision to push the Hawk’s lead to 18-0. At 170#, Brogan Brewer would get taken down in sudden victory in a back and forth match before PDC would forfeit at 182#. At 195#, Bradyn Saint would record a first-period fall. At this time, IG/H came storming back, recording first period falls of their own at 220#, 285#, and 106# to take a 27-24 lead.

Ryder Koenig would put an end to that with a quick first-period fall at 113# to put the Hawks back in the lead. At 120#, Rhett Koenig would get a major decision over a returning State Qualifier to make the score 34-27 in PDC’s favor. At 126#, IG/H would get a pin to cut the lead to one. It would all come down to the last match, with the winner also securing a win for their team. Maddox Cejka would not be denied, with a second-period fall to help lead PDC to a 40-33 victory.

Big home meet Friday

The next action for the PDC grapplers will be a quadrangular Friday evening in the Prairie du Chien Fieldhouse with a 6 p.m. start. PDC is inviting the big boys to town. All three teams are in D1, with a respectable Sparta team, #3 ranked Holmen, and #2 ranked and defending State Champs Stoughton.
