Marilyn Jane Spear, 78, of Clayton, formerly of Waterloo died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Private family graveside services were held.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Marilyn was born on Jan. 2, 1943, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel Hare.

Marilyn received her education in Waterloo where she graduated from West Waterloo High School. On April 15, 1960, she was united in marriage with Edward Spear at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and this union blessed the couple with two sons, Mike and Steve. Marilyn and Ed enjoyed many weekends on the Mississippi River so much as the kids grew up they decided to build their retirement home on the river. 

Marilyn entered heaven leaving behind her two sons, Mike (Chrissy) Spear and Steve (Patty) Spear; five grandchildren, Ashley, Meagan, Scott, Samantha and Clayton; three great-grandchildren, Hope, Rian and Noah; one brother, Kenneth (Virginia) Hare and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed, in 2005; granddaughter, Jessica Spear; three siblings, Velma Purdy, Bob Hare and Lawrence Hare.
