Thomas Coast Perry, of Volga, was surrounded by the love of his daughter and sisters the last days of his life. He passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2021, in hospice care at MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader. Tom was born on April 16, 1941, to Louise and Thomas Perry. The family resided in Columbus Junction and enjoyed many fun times at their cabin on the Iowa River.

Tom joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany, from 1960 to 1964. He then attended the University of Iowa, where he earned a master’s degree in geology. His life work was in exploration for oil and gas companies.

He is survived by his former wife, Melodie Schweitzer Sheisme, his daughter Dianne Perry and grandsons Henry and Joseph Friedman, all of Denver, Colo.; his sisters, Sue Schweitzer of Columbus Junction and Margaret Allen of Loveland, Colo.; along with his special friend, Sally Nordstrom of Manchester.

Tom was a 34-year member of Alcohol Anonymous and a valued leader to many who sought help. His big heart and wise words will be missed by many.

A family service will be held in the spring.

In lieu of memorial gifts, we ask you to do as Tom did for so many years and just be kind to one another.
