Billie Oliver Kindred, 91, of McGregor, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at Mayo Health Systems in La Crosse. 

He was born Dec. 28, 1929, to Carl Roger and Helen (Rockhold) Kindred in Lamoni, Iowa. Billie attended country school through the eighth grade. He proudly joined and served in the United States Army. On Oct. 22, 1985, Billie was united in marriage with Judith Johnson. Throughout the years, he drove truck, was a farmer, worked maintenance at Washington Hospital, and was a greeter at Walmart. Bill was known as a true gentleman. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening. He was a penny pincher, very hard worker and loved to go out to eat. 

Surviving Billie are his wife, Judith Kindred; daughter, Rhonda Chorpening of Washington, Iowa; and his siblings, Kate Ahrens of Quincy, Ill., Norma Stutzman of Buffalo, Mo., Maggie (Bob) Elliott of Iowa City, Iowa, Gary Dickerson of Quincy, Ill. and Mike Dickerson of Muscatine, Iowa. 

He was preceded in death by his sons, Bill Kindred and Steve Kindred; parents, Carl and Helen Kindred; and his siblings, Ruby (Bob) Liechty, Lois (Jim) Drayfah, Carl (Lou) Kindred and Jean (Oren) Black; brothers-in-law, Johnny Ahrens and Hubert Stutzman; and stepfather, Claude Dickerson.

Burial with Military Rites will be held at a later date. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, of McGregor, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
