Prairie du Chien girls win third straight regional title

On Friday, Feb. 12, the Prairie du Chien girls basketball team hosted the Lancaster Flying Arrows for the Regional Semifinal tournament game. 

The Hawks took the lead from the start at 13-5 with two, three-point baskets each from Macey Banasik and Lily Krahn and a free-throw from Allison Allbee. Lancaster went on a quick run to cut the lead to just two at 13-11. Prairie went on to extend their lead by 11 at 25-14. The Hawks would lead at the half at 30-20. 

In the second half, Lancaster stayed within 10 points of the Hawks, but that’s as close as they would come as Prairie outscored them 27-14 to secure the win with a final score of 63-40. 

Eight girls contributed to scoring. Lily Krahn led with 30, Macey Banasik had 9, Allison Allbee had 8, Ashlyn Knapp had 7, Makenzie Knapp had 4, Abby Feye and Nicole Rickleff each had 2, and Shayla Straka had 1. This win advanced the Hawks into the Regional Final game against New Glarus on Saturday.

PdC tops New Glarus

On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Prairie du Chien girls basketball team hosted New Glarus for the Regional Final contest. 

New Glarus ended the regular season with a record of 19-4. Macey Banasik started off scoring for the Hawks with two, three-point baskets from the top of the key. Prairie found Lily Krahn in the post for a couple of easy baskets along with Ella Hager and Banasik each hitting a dribble pull-up from the baseline. Teagan Radloff also hit a three-point shot, and Makenzie Knapp and Allison Allbee each had a layup in the post. The Hawks led 28-15 at the half. 

In the second half, New Glarus looked to push the ball more on offense, leading to more fastbreaks and layups. With just under 13 minutes left in the half, they cut the lead to 8 at 30-22. From that point forward, the Hawks went on a 22-10 run to win the game with a final score of 52-32. 

Seven girls contributed to the scoring. Lily Krahn led with 19, Macey Banasik had 16, Allison Allbee had 6, Teagan Radloff had 5, and Ella Hager, Makenzie Knapp, and Nicole Rickleff each had 2. 

Prairie’s victory secured their third consecutive Regional Championship and advanced them to the Sectional Semifinal game against Lake Mills on Thursday, Feb. 18. Prairie du Chien is the second seed in the sectional and will host #3 Lake Mills.
