Prairie du Chien St. Patrick’s Day parade is not happening again because of COVID

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Prairie du Chien will not happen for the second consecutive year, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The Prairie du Chien Area Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the yearly parade, made the decision to cancel due to the limited amount of COVID-19 vaccinations available to the general public in Crawford County currently.
“Knowing the thousands of people who would come out, and then pack [inside local establishments] like sardines, we just cannot take that risk and promote such an event,” stated Chamber CEO Bob Moses. “We really struggled not sponsoring this event again this year.”
Many parades canceled
He noted that most all other parades, from small towns to big cities across the region, are not being offered this year for the same reason.
“Next year will be the 150th anniversary of the city of Prairie du Chien, and that will be our theme. So we’re very much looking forward to 2022,” Moses said.
