Sharon Berns passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021, with her family by her side.

Given the current pandemic and in respect for her dedication to community health, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family at St. Joseph Cemetery in Garnavillo.

She was born Aug. 6, 1950, to Francis and Ruth (Ferguson) Moreland and grew up in Marquette. Growing up, she was a Rainbow Girl in the Methodist Church and graduated from Mar-Mac High School. On June 20, 1970, she married Theodore (Ted) Berns and together they raised two children, Sarah and Nathan. 

Sharon worked for over 35 years as a nurse in a variety of healthcare settings, including 10 years for Dr. Pfeiffer at his McGregor Clinic until his retirement. She returned to school to advance her degree and spent 21 years as a hospice nurse providing compassionate care and comfort to numerous patients and families in the surrounding community. Sharon was dedicated to her profession and a strong advocate for her patients.

Her favorite pastimes included golfing with friends and family, dining out, and spending quality, fun time with her friends, family, children, and grandchildren. She was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, competitiveness, and strong intellect. 

She was a loving wife and companion, a supportive and inspirational mother and a very proud grandmother to her four grandchildren. Sharon held a genuine interest in the achievements of those she knew. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ted Berns; daughter, Sarah (Andy) Yarrington; son, Nathan (Joelle) Berns; four beautiful and vibrant grandchildren, Olivia, Nadia, Chase, and Emilia; siblings, Shirley (Jim) Buss, Judy Ferguson, Sandy (Rollin) Seifert, Jean (Joe) Kirschbaum, Bill (Marilyn) Baker, Gary (Linda) Moreland, and Vicki (Pat) Young. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmy and Roger Moreland, and sister, Carol Steiner.
