Daryl Cletus Baade was born on May 19, 1961, in Oelwein. He passed peacefully at home on March 28, 2021, surrounded by family. Daryl attended Central Community High School. He was one of three children of Cletus and Zala (Schultz) Baade.

Daryl loved farming, playing softball, dart league, golf, watching the Hawkeyes, trips to Laughlin, Nev., driving his Trans Am and spending time with friends and family. His commitment to his kids was of utmost importance. On many occasions, he would rise early to milk cows, drive three hours to where his children resided at that time, go on their field trips, then race back home for evening chores. He also had a strong dedication to the family farm. He worked hard, but played even harder. He had a natural knack for joking, putting smiles on people’s faces and making them feel loved.

Left to cherish his memory are his father, Cletus Baade, his fiancé, Carrie Seeley; his three children and spouses, Sadie (Matt) Herman, Luke (Catherine) Baade and Paige (Fransisco) Baade; eight grandchildren, Tori, Elsie, Lexi, Jace, Ace, Layla, Logan and Frankie; two sisters, Marlys (Stewart) Boysen and Julie (Troy) Beach; aunts Lorna (Dennis) Christeleit and Judy Schnurstein; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Zala; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Hulda Baade; maternal grandparents, Art and Edna Schultz; cousins, Tammy Christeleit, Brad Bushkofsky and Bruce Bushkofsky; aunt, Dorothy Bushkofsky; and grandson, Christian Herman.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made in Daryl’s honor.

Visitation was held on March 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga.

A private funeral service was held on Thursday, followed by interment at East Side Cemetery in Elkader.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
