Rummage Along the River is a 70-mile garage sale that winds along Highway 35, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15. Stoddard, Genoa, the Bad Axe, Victory, De Soto, Ferryville and Lynxville are the river towns, and then you swing up County E to Highway 27 to Seneca and Mt. Sterling for more shopping. 

What better way to spend a weekend than to drive the Great River Road National Scenic Byway, shop for bargains and enjoy the scenery, local places and people.  

Bring your biggest totes, car, truck or U-Haul, a cup of coffee (or buy a cup of java at the local spots in each village, relax and enjoy.

To find a list of the garage sales in each community, stop at the gas stations in Genoa, De Soto and Ferryville, Village Hall in Stoddard, Hoochie’s II in Lynxville, Greener’s and Johnson’s One Stop in Seneca, and Finders Keepers in Mt. Sterling. 

Some of the shopping highlights include:

Ferryville—If you want “manly stuff, a compound bow, three-tap kegerator, gaming machines and tractors, or great antiques, bargains and quilted crafts, put us on your list,” said Jeanne Rutter. Garage sales will include items from multi-family sales, antiques, vintage items, coins, paper money, big size clothes, kids toys, kitchen items, tables and chairs. Amish vendors will feature maple syrup, quilts, baskets, baked goods and crafts. Robert Jelinek will have homemade maple syrup and walnuts plus more. A Brat Fry by the fire department and emergency medical service will take place at ARCO Gas Station/Ferryville Cheese. At Ferryville Village Hall, find Capelle Cuisine with a menu that includes breakfast items, Chicago hotdogs, walking tacos, Italian beef sandwiches etc. 

Sugar Creek Park, Ferryville—Vendors with collectibles, antiques, household items, baskets and more.

Lynxville—Check out a wealth of treasures including hunting gear and camo items, craft items and kids/adult clothing, toys and collectibles.

Seneca and Mt. Sterling—These towns are well worth the time to explore. Find kids clothes, toys, tools, mirrors, antiques, furniture, moving sales and other treasures.

De Soto—Make sure to visit the De Soto Lutheran Church for deals. Enjoy sales at the DeSoto Community Center for indoor and outdoor vendors, food, crafts, clothing and sewing fabric. The FFA greenhouse is open at the De Soto High School.

Genoa—This is a hot spot for exercise equipment, collectibles, clothing, fishing and outdoor gear. 

Stoddard—Here, the American Legion is selling hot dogs and brats both days. You will also find vintage items like furniture, glassware, crocks and more. The “manly” bargains are here too and include tools, sporting goods and guns. The De Soto FFA has plants for sale at the elementary school. St. Mathew’s Lutheran Church features “Market On The Green” with over 20 sellers. Stoddard Methodist Church has food, tanks, kids items, boats, family clothing, toys and many bargains.

Bad Axe—The De Garmos have their mega sale in the Bad Axe neighborhood with everything from soup to nuts.
