Judith Arlene Katschkowsky, 79, of Streamwood, Ill., formerly of Blakesburg, died Friday, Feb. 5, 2021. She was born May 24, 1941, the first of four children of Eugene and Geneva (Ritter) Glosser.

Judy graduated high school and left the farm near Blakesburg and moved to Cedar Rapids to work. While living there, she met Richard Katschkowsky from Elkader. Judy and Richard fell in love and moved to Chicago, where they married on July 28, 1962.

Judy was a professional seamstress, working from home for several clothing stores in the area doing alterations and also for customers in surrounding communities. Judy and Richard were blessed with two daughters, Carol and Rita. They then moved to Northbrook, Ill. Judy was very involved in her community, volunteering at the Northbrook Presbyterian Church, with the Northbrook Girl Scouts and many other local programs. Judy was a very creative person, always busy crafting, making jewelry, sewing and quilting, and she loved putting a puzzle together. She was a great cook, making sure no one ever left their house hungry. You could always find her in the morning with her Diet Coke and a good wood search to start her day. Judy also loved her western movies and could be found watching many a good John Wayne movie.

Judy was also known for her green thumb and gift to garden growing vegetables and her beautiful flower beds, spending hours never letting a weed get the best of her. She also worked at The Jewel Store after her girls were grown and on their own, until 2007, when she retired.

Richard and Judy enjoyed spending time traveling with their girls to many states, experiencing many adventures and makes lots of memories. They would spend many summers in Elkader in the house where Richard was raised, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family in the area.

They also enjoyed spending winters in southern Texas after their retirement. Judy continued to travel to Mission, Texas, after her husband Richard passed in 2013. She then met her new best friend who showed up on her porch in Texas, her fur child Freddie, who was by her side every day for the rest of her life, keeping her entertained and loved. She loved her family, friends, music, parties and also volunteering in quilting for Fiesta Village in Mission, Texas, where she wintered until God called her home on Feb. 5, 2021.

Those left to cherish her memory are brothers Wayne (Bonnie) Glosser and Jim (Judi) Glosser; her daughter Carol Kats-Willis (Rick Willis); nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends and Freddie her fur child.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband Richard in August of 2013, her daughter Rita in August 2010, her parents, brother Jerry Glosser, sisters- and brothers-in-law, two nieces and many friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 22, at high noon at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Internment will be at Eastside Cemetery, Elkader.
