On Thursday, June 10, 2021, after a three-year battle with colon cancer, Kevin Allen Morarend, 65, of Guttenberg, passed away surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Sunday, June 13, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Funeral services were Monday, June 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. 

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Kevin was born on June 16, 1955, in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was the son of Earl and Phyllis (Noack) Morarend.

Kevin grew up on a dairy/hog farm. He enjoyed farm life, especially working in the fields driving Oliver and John Deere tractors. His favorite part of farming was making hay, both small and big bales. Kevin was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. He served on church council and enjoyed working at the church food stand at the Clayton County Fair. Kevin went to school in Guttenberg where he graduated with the class of 1974. After graduating Kevin worked at Meuser’s Lumber yard and later at the sand mine in Clayton. In 1986, Kevin bought the family farm and his life as a full-time farmer began. On Oct. 22, 1988, Kevin was united in marriage to Laura Kruse at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Two children were born to this blessed union. He retired from milking in the spring of 2020. He continued to help his kids with all field work up until January 2021.

Kevin will be forever loved and cherished by his wife, Laura; children, Timothy (Ashley) Morarend and Hilliary Morarend; one grandson, Easton; siblings, Karen (Steve) Smith, Caryles (Bonnie) Morarend and Steven (Mary) Morarend; brother-in-law, Rick Young; mother-in-law, Carol Kruse; brother-in-law, Troy Kruse; sister-in-law, Nancy (Greg) McEowen; nieces and nephews, Troy (Lynn) Smith and family, Jeff (Jessica) Smith and family, Chad (Kim) Morarend and family, Quinn (Cheryl) Morarend and family, Melissa (Brett) Ishman and family, Shane (Carol) Morarend, Hailey McEowen, Dustin McEowen; two special nieces, Emily and Katelyn Frey; and his special pet, Stella.

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in infancy; two sisters, Leanna Morarend and JoAnn Young; father-in-law, Irvin Kruse; sister-in-law, Melissa Kruse, and special pet, Cloey.

In lieu of flowers and all styles of sympathy the family has requested that memorials be made to Crossing Rivers Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo or Dollars for Scholars.
