K9 Breck sits behind 3/4 pound of meth and a large amount of cash that was seized in a search of a vehicle. (Photo submitted)

Sheriff Dale McCullick reports that during the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 9, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2017 Honda Civic on Highway 35 in the village of Ferryville. The sole occupant and operator of the vehicle was identified as Colleen Crawford, 62, Minneapolis.

During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy attempted to detain Crawford for the purpose of furthering an investigation into suspicions of illegal drug trafficking. Crawford refused to comply with being detained and fled in her vehicle southbound on Highway 35 towards Prairie du Chien. The deputy engaged in a pursuit and attempted to stop her again. However, she would not stop.

Additional law enforcement personnel with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and Prairie du Chien Police Department responded to assist and eventually deployed tire deflation devices. Upon deployment, Crawford drove her vehicle over the tire deflation devices causing the tires to deflate. As the tires deflated, the speed of the vehicle decreased immensely and law enforcement personnel were able to utilize trained techniques to eventually stop the vehicle near the Prairie du Chien Municipal Airport. During the pursuit, Crawford struck two Prairie du Chien Police Department squad cars and two Crawford County Sheriff’s Department squad cars, causing minor and moderate damage.

Once the vehicle was stopped and Crawford was taken into custody, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department K9 “Breck” was utilized and alerted to one or more controlled substances inside the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and three-quarters of a pound of meth was discovered, along with numerous items of drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of cash.

As a result, Crawford was arrested. Possible charges may include operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a restricted controlled substance, intent to deliver methamphetamine greater than 50 grams, multiple counts of recklessly endangering safety, fleeing from officers, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Crossing Rivers Health, Tri-State Regional Ambulance Service, Bob’s Towing Service, and Milo’s Towing Services.
