Rick Kuhlman, 74, of Guttenberg, died Thursday, June 17, 2021.

Graveside services were Tuesday, June 22, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Colesburg. A reception followed at the Lone Pine Country Club in Colesburg.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Rick was born on March 8, 1947, in Edgewood, the son of Kermit and Betty (Voss) Kuhlman.

Rick graduated in 1965 from Edgewood-Colesburg High School. A few years after graduating he and his brother Reid took over the family business, Kuhlman Construction/Quarries. Eventually some of his own children would work alongside him. On May 30, 1981, Rick was united in marriage with Jane Boeckenstedt. Together they had five children. Rick was well-known and active in the surrounding communities. He was an avid supporter of the annual 4-H Livestock auctions in Clayton, Delaware and Dubuque counties. He loved to make sure the participants were rewarded for their hard work and never told a kid with a fundraiser no. He was active and respected in the aggregate industry, having served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Limestone Producers Association where he held the title of President in 1990. Rick was a Trustee of the Boy Scout Camp C.S. Klaus and a founding member of the Lone Pine Country Club in Colesburg. He was adamant that his kids know how to drive a manual transmission and be able to back up a trailer. He was well known as a dog lover and each of the family dogs and grand dogs knew where to find a treat.

Rick will be forever loved and cherished by his wife, Jane; children, Kenny (Donna) Kuhlman, their children Dagny, Matilda, Kermit and Theodore; Ericka Kuhlman (AY Weaver) and their daughter Ivy; Katie Headrick and her children Maddie, Brynn, and Cole; Johanna Kuhlman and Kolton Kuhlman; brother, Reid (Janie) Kuhlman; sister, Rhonda (Jon Beck) Juran and also his in-laws, Dennis Boeckenstedt, Sue (Mike) Leuchs, Randy Boeckenstedt, and Irv (Esther) Boeckenstedt and many other relatives and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Renee, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Imelda Boeckenstedt.

In lieu of flowers and all other styles of sympathy the family has requested memorials to be made to the Guttenberg Fire Department, P.O. Box 74, Guttenberg, IA 52052.
