Seneca softball team beats rival De Soto

Philomena Hall winds up versus De Soto in the sectional semifinal.

De Soto hosted Seneca softball on Monday, June 21 for the Division 5 WIAA Sectional Semi-final.  

Seneca’s Anya Aspenson started things off in the first by getting on with a walk, followed by Nicky Trautsch getting hit by a pitch to get on.  Kendra Chambers would score Aspenson with a double to center and Trautsch would score on a sacrifice hit by Philomena Hall. Chambers would score on a single to left by Bridget Hagensick and she would score on a triple to right by Aubrey Wallin to put four on the board for Seneca going into the bottom of the first.  

De Soto would put up one in the bottom with Val Osthoff getting on base with a hit to left and she would get to second on an overthrow. Osthoff would score on a hit by Jordan Young.  

Seneca would then add two more runs in the third with Chambers getting on with an infield hit, reaching second on a passed ball, and scoring on a triple to right by Hagensick, who would also score on a passed ball.  

De Soto would answer with two in the third with Zoey Boardman getting on with a single to left, getting second on a passed ball, advancing to third on a hit by Osthoff and scoring on a passed ball. Osthoff would then score on an overthrow.  

Seneca would add three more runs to their total in the fifth with Chambers getting on with a walk, advancing on Hagensick getting hit by a pitch and score on a double to left by Wallin. Both Hagensick and Wallin would score on a single to right by Jorja Clark.  

De Soto’s Boardman would get on with a single to right and advance on a walk by Camryn Venner. Boardman would score on a double to center by Young and Venner would score on a hit by April Haakenson. 

DeSoto would add one more run to their total in the bottom of the sixth with Cierra Spears getting on with a hit by pitch, she would get to second on a passed ball and score on a hit to left by Boardman to make the final score Seneca 9, De Soto 6.  

Seneca will travel to Bangor on Wednesday, June 23 to play Independence/Gilmanton at 5 p.m. in the sectional final.
