Robin Fisher

By Ted Pennekamp

Crawford County Clerk Robin Fisher and her family are naturally quite excited, and yet down to earth about Robin picking the Queen of Hearts to win Thursday night’s big drawing at Leisure Time Sports Bar and Bowl in Prairie du Chien.

“Oh my God, I’m still in shock,” said Robin in part of a Facebook comment shortly after her huge win. “I truly have the most amazing friends and family.”

The winning card was for a total of $266,564. Robin and her husband Mitch will receive 75% ($199,923) before taxes. The Prairie du Chien Kiwanis Club will get 20% ($53,313), and Leisure Time will receive 5% ($13,328).

“We’ll spend it here,” said Robin on Monday. She also said she has received many kind words.

“They were very happy for me and said they were glad that good things happen to good people and glad it went to someone from the community,” said Robin. “That’s the best compliment I could get, that they think we are good people.”

Robin said her daughter Chelsea had a premonition about two months ago that the number 6 card was going to be the Queen of Hearts. Robin was outside of Leisure Time and let out a joyful whoop and wore a big smile when she saw she had the correct color and number on one of her tickets for Thursday’s drawing. She then excitedly made her way through the crowd and went inside. Robin picked the number 6 card and, low and behold, she picked the winning card out of 10 to choose from.

The joy and congratulations commenced.

“A huge congratulations to Robin Fisher, the winner of our Queen of Hearts Drawing last night,” said Leisure Time on Facebook the next day. “We are so excited for you! Robin is a native of Prairie du Chien and has been there week in and week out to participate. We are so happy for you. There were many hours spent by both our staff and the Kiwanis Club members and spouses preparing for this each week. We are so grateful to the Kiwanis Club for everything they did. What a great group they are, and they do so much for our community. Their portion will go a long way to help our youth.

“Also, thank you to our friends (too many to list) that helped us, whether it was guest bartending, preparing the tickets, tearing tickets or offering their help with whatever needed to be done. We couldn’t have done it without you either. Thanks to our fire chief for his patience as we wrapped this up and for the police officers who were on location to help if needed. Lastly, thank you for our patrons as we navigated through this. It was an experience we will never forget and we’re hoping you had some fun along the way.

“We look forward to continuing with our next Queen of Hearts drawing next Thursday night. However, in a much different format. The sponsoring group will be the Prairie du Chien Fire Department. Watch our Facebook page for more details. Once again, congratulations Robin!”

“I am still the same person,” said Robin in her office on Monday. She said she will continue to enjoy serving as county clerk, and she and Mitch are looking forward to using the excellent windfall wisely.

Robin and Mitch have two daughters. Chelsea lives in Minnesota, and Jordyn is going to school in Appleton for nursing.
