Robert Allen Hamann, 72, of Marquette, died Monday, July 26, 2021, surrounded by his loved ones at his home. Robert was born on Nov. 21, 1948, to Edward and Juniver (Bruehahm) Hamann in McGregor.

 

Robert was united in marriage with Bernadine Shefelbine. One daughter was born to this union, Pamela Marie. They later divorced. Robert worked various jobs until going into law enforcement, which he served for 37 years. Throughout the years, Robert worked for the McGregor and Marquette police departments, before going to work for the Strawberry Point Police Department. Robert then became an investigator for the Clayton County Sheriff’s Department before returning to McGregor, where he became chief. During that time, Marquette and McGregor combined forces and became Mar-Mac. Robert then became the Clayton County Sheriff for eight years. He finally finished out his career as a bartender at Pocket City Pub in McGregor, where he met a lot of friends and told many stories. Robert also served 29 years on the fire department and 20 years on the ambulance service. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed fishing, doing crossword puzzles, working on his yard and having bonfires while spending time with his family.

 

Preceding Robert in death were his parents, Edward and Juniver Hamann, and one brother, Edward Hamann.

 

Robert is survived by his daughter, Pam Hamann of Marquette; three grandsons, Bobby (Rachael) Stoeffler of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Travis (Casey) Stoeffler of Random Lake, Wis., and Andrew Stoeffler of Marquette; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Carolyn Weipert and Gloria Bird; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hamann; and many nieces and nephews. 

 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in McGregor. There will also be a one-hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.

 

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in McGregor, with Rev. William Gentry as the officiant.

 

Inurnment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor.

 

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation of McGregor is assisting the family with arrangements.
