Carolyn Rose (Schack) Tesar, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was the only child born to Edward and Elizabeth Schack, on Mother’s Day, May 13, 1945, in Chicago, Ill. She graduated Waller High School, at the age of 17, in 1962, and suffered the loss of her father the year after. A lifelong passion for music, she played professionally in Chicago and began teaching music privately. On a weekend trip to see the sights in Wisconsin, she met and later married Samuel Tesar on July 22, 1967, in Chicago at Saint Vincent DePaul Church and settled in Prairie du Chien. Later, moving the family to rural Eastman, they raised four children on their active farm. In the early 1980’s, she began selling real estate and completing appraisals with Eldon Ahrens, eventually purchasing the business and keeping the business name, Ahrens Realty. Carolyn helped countless buyers into their first homes, countless tenants, and was always rooting for the underdog. Never losing her passion for the arts, she continued to teach music and champion those who pursued a creative path. Always a hard-working, caring mother, she was quick to sew an outfit, make some baby clothes, cook or bake a meal and dish, or play piano, accordion, guitar for an event. She will be remembered as a very independent spirit and proud "Magyar" Granny to Danny, Jr., Kama, and Elizabeth (Lizzie).

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Samuel; four children, Samuel, Jr. (Lisa), Daniel (Joeann), Andrew, and Kathleen (Patrick) Nagovan; very special friend, Sharee Asche, as well as her three beloved grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Albina; sister-in-law, Faye Tesar; and several great dogs, starting with Lady and ending with Jake.

In accordance with Carolyn’s wish, no formal funeral or visitation will be held. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family with arrangements.
