Lora May Chamberlain, 84, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. 

She was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Roger and Charlotte (Young) Steiner. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School at the top of her class in 1955. She married Richard Chamberlain on Oct. 6, 1956, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien before moving to the Milwaukee area where they lived for 30 years. There she worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She was a very intelligent woman who loved crossword puzzles and exploring different art forms. She loved cross-stitching, baking, drawing sketches, and painting ornaments and figurines. She also enjoyed the theater, singing, bowling, and playing cards. She even ran the ladies card club in town for several years. She was a life-long devout Catholic and member of St. John’s in Prairie du Chien. She was renowned for her sweetness and generosity. She was so loved and will always be missed. 

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard; their children, Richard Jr. (Lynne), Valerie Chamberlain, Brett (Julia), Bart (Amela), and Karen (Richard) Kalkhoff; her grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew and Sara Kalkhoff and Jacob Chamberlain; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Raoul and Roger Steiner and her sister Pamella Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Soetzel officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. 

The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
