Donald L. Valley, 74, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, peacefully in his home.

He was born Oct. 21, 1946, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Carl and Mary (Koecke) Valley. Born and raised in the Fourth Ward, he was part of the old Fourth Ward gang. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School, class of 1965. Don served in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. Don spent most of his life on the Mississippi River. He was a skilled trapper and one of the last full-time commercial fishermen in the area. He was also active in the clamming industry. Don owned and operated an ice business that once stood in the location of the current McDonald’s in town. He ran the Lynxville Fishing Float and Donny’s Mobile Kitchen for many years. Duck and deer hunting were two of his most enjoyed hobbies, where he shared all his best secrets and spots with his son, Erik. More recently, his hobbies included crafting and jewelry making. Don was a humorous man and enjoyed making others laugh.

He is survived by his children Erik (Stephanie) and Angela Valley; his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Austin, Lydia and Quinn; a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and other siblings.

There will be no services offered at this time to honor Don’s wishes. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
