Warriors play hard, but lose two games

The Central volleyball team endured another tough week, dropping a hard fought, five-set match against MFL MarMac, then losing in straight sets to Clayton Ridge, bringing its record to 9-25. 

 

In the Sept. 28 match against the Bulldogs, the two teams swapped set victories. Central dropped the first set 25-18, came back to win the second 27-25, lost set three 25-22 and won the fourth 25-20. However, the Warriors fell short in the fifth and deciding set, losing 15-9. 

 

The Warrior offense put up 24 assists, led by Elizabeth Royer with 12 and Giorgia Baiguini with nine. Three players, Lexi Loan, Isabelle Groth and Alyson Feickert, each had one apiece. 

 

The team also totaled 27 kills on 120 attempts. Loan had a leading nine kills, Groth got five, Tori Sylvester hit four and Chelsia Larson finished with three. 

 

On defense, the Warriors came away with 11 blocks and 45 digs. Larson led the team with four blocks, with Groth and Katelyn Scherf getting two blocks each, and Loan, Feickert and Sylvester all blocking one shot. Two players, Loan and Feickert, finished with a team-high 10 digs, followed by Alivia Keppler with eight, Royer with six, Larson and Brandy Beatty with three and Baiguini and Groth with two apiece. 

 

In the serving department, Central finished with six aces, three from Royer and one each from Baiguini, Loan and Keppler. The Warriors had 89 successful serves on 97 attempts and finished with a serve efficiency of 91.8 percent. 

 

In the later match against Clayton Ridge, the Warriors lost all three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-16. 

 

The offense put up 12 assists, with Royer getting eight and Baiguini four. As for kills, the team totaled 12 on 55 attempts, with six errors. Feickert led the effort with four, followed by Loan and Groth with three apiece and Sylvester with two. 

 

The defense finished with eight blocks, led by Larson with three, while Scherf had two, and Groth, Feickert and Sylvester each had one. The Warriors also had 46 digs, led by Loan with 14. Feickert grabbed eight, Baiguini secured seven and Beatty, Keppler and Larson each had four. 

 

On the serving side, the Warriors hit eight aces, as Baiguini tallied four, Larson hit three and Loan got one. The Warriors were successful on 58 of 61 attempts and finished with a serve efficiency of 95.1 percent.

 

Central returns to action on Oct. 7, at West Central (7-9).
