Forrest Wayne Monroe, 90, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at his home in Guttenberg. Forrest was born Jan. 24, 1931, to Albert and Mari (Land) Monroe in Communia. He attended country school and Postville High School. Forrest proudly joined and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

 

On Aug. 19, 1951, Forrest was united in marriage with JoAnn Lauer at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado. Six children were born to this union. Forrest farmed in the Luana area, worked as a mechanic for John Deere for many years and was a property manager for Rydell Farms for over 20 years.

 

Surviving Forrest are his wife, JoAnn Monroe of Guttenberg; his children, Peggy (Tony) Webb of Garnavillo, Judy Stahl of Postville, Kevin (Jan) Monroe of Elkader, Brian (Lynn) Monroe of Postville, Paul (Kelly) Monroe of Stoughton, Wis., and Brent (Melissa) Monroe of Urbandale; 17 grandchildren, Alisha Richardson, Dustin West, Jill (A.J.) Austin, Greg Monroe, Christina Sanderson, Matt Monroe, Jamie Bishop, Jodeann Cooley, Shane (Mandy) Monroe, Jesse (Lisa) Monroe, Travis (Bridget) Monroe, Colton (Kassie) Monroe, Rhys Monroe, Megan (Jacob) Stetzer, Joshua Wieman, Molly Monroe and Megan Monroe; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Fielden (Harriet) Monroe of Ossian, and a sister, Rose Keller of Phoenix, Ariz. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mari Monroe; and his seven siblings, Alvin, Bernold, Curtis, Bernita, Virgil, Carroll and Marlene.

 

Visitation was held on Oct. 19, at the Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian. Graveside service with military rites was held on Oct. 19, at Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, with Deacon Patrick Malanaphy as the officiant.

 

Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian is assisting the family with arrangements.
