Local Veterans Day program

Guttenberg's traditional Veteran's Day program on Thursday, Nov. 11, will feature a shortened version again this year. It will repeat the format of last year's program which was modified due to the pandemic.
Dennis Hanna of the local American Legion Post, the organization that coordinates the event, said that although the traditional program at school will not be held, organizers want to honor all veterans with a brief acknowledgement of their service and sacrifice.
"A 21-gun salute will be fired at 10 a.m. at the Guttenberg Area Veterans Memorial in Inglside Park," said Hanna. "The salute will be followed by the playing of 'Taps.'
" Those taking part will practice social distancing," said Hanna. The public is invited to observe the ceremony from their cars. "The event will be very brief" said Hanna. School students have been invited to watch from the playground.
