Lynda C. Welter, 78, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem.

She was born in Prairie du Chien, on Dec. 8, 1942, the daughter of Harry and Violet (Schwert) Oestreich. She was proud to have grown up in the Fourth Ward in Prairie du Chien and was active as a cheerleader in high school. She then worked in an orthodontist office before marrying Stephen Edward Welter on Aug. 31, 1963. Together, they raised their family in the Prairie du Chien area. Lynda loved the water and living near the Mississippi River. She enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, and spending time on the water with those close to her. She participated in golf league on Tuesday nights, book club and the hospital auxiliary. She loved dogs, especially her chocolate Labrador, Bruno. Lynda cared deeply for her family, taking any chance she could to spend time with and spoil her grandchildren with ice cream. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Becky (Jon) Nommensen, Stephen (Kathleen) Welter, and Erich (Meghan) Welter; her grandchildren, Regina (Aaron) Sime, Kathryn (Zach) Elliott, Olivia (Mat) Butzler, Jacklyn (Garrett) Riggs, Austin (Haley) Day, and Julia, Nathan, Stephanie, and Wyatt Welter; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ricky, Beckett and Henry Sime, Nash and Kenna Elliott, Reagan Nommensen, Lincoln Riggs, and Madison Butzler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years; Stephen E. Welter; an infant daughter Bridget; and her brother, James Oestreich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
