Two shop local promotions will soon inflate the communities of Prairie du Chien, Marquette and McGregor, beginning this weekend.

First, Small Business Saturday... is a one-day event held Nov. 27, in celebration of the small businesses that make up these communities. Nearly 30 businesses are participating and will have punch cards to fill toward cash prizes. This is sponsored by both the Prairie du Chien and McGregor-Marquette chambers of commerce. 

Shoppers can pick up their Small Business Saturday punch card at any of the participating locations. Then, for every $10 spent, they get one punch. Once a card is filled—with $50 spent at various locations, or five total punches—patrons are welcome to fill additional cards. 

Completed Small Business Saturday punch cards can be dropped off at the Prairie du Chien or McGregor-Marquette chamber offices no later than Dec. 1. Two winners will be selected from these—one from each chamber—to win $50 in Chamber Dollars. Winners will be announced on both Chambers’ Facebook pages. 

Second, Santa Shops Small... is a slightly different campaign. This promotion starts on Saturday, Nov. 27, and runs through Friday, Dec. 24. It has its own punch card and involves some of the same businesses but also some that are unique. This is being put on as a collaborative effort of Prairie du Chien Main Street as well as many downtown businesses in Prairie, Marquette and McGregor.

Shoppers can pick up their Santa Shops Small punch card at any of the locations participating in this promotion. Then, for every $10 spent, they get one punch. Once a card is filled—with $100 spent at various locations, or 10 total punches—patrons are welcome to fill additional cards. 

Full punch cards for Santa Shops Small can be placed inside drop boxes at the participating businesses of the shopper’s choice. Then, after the promotion, each merchant will draw a winning customer to receive a $25 gift from that business. Winners will be personally contacted. 

Shoppers should be sure to ask about the promotions throughout the season. Double punches (of both cards) will be provided on Saturday, Nov. 27—as both promotions are going on that day only. 

There’s no denying that small businesses are essential for healthy local economies. Circulating money locally helps these communities thrive. A strong network of local funds enables individuals and businesses within a community to support each other. With the holidays around the corner, these activities are a great way to encourage folks to take part in their local economy by shopping small at businesses that are just down the street. 

These partnerships between the three cities also creates a deeper commitment to promoting and supporting one another.
