Arlene Ann (Schultz) Pollock, 89, of Elgin, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. Arlene was born March 25, 1932 to Lloyd William and Aurelia M. (Heins) Schultz at the doctor’s office in Postville. She graduated from Postville High School in 1949. During Postville’s centennial year, Arlene led the marching band for parades through town. After high school, Arlene worked for her family’s restaurant in Postville.

 

On Nov. 29, 1952, Arlene was united in marriage with Gordon Thomas Pollock at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Seven children were born to this union.  Arlene enjoyed gardening and painting, donating a painting to the band fundraiser every year. She loved her grandchildren and attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, especially the fine arts. Arlene was a member of Illyria Community Church and was very active in the Illyria Church and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Clayton County Pork Producers and Farm Bureau.

 

Surviving Arlene are her children, Vali (Warren) Leeps of La Crosse, Wis., Scott Pollock of Volga, Dr. Thomas (Lenee) Pollock of Aplington, Deon (Kurt) Amundson of Mt. Hope, Wis., and Beth (Joel) Harris of Portage, Ind.; grandchildren, Kayla (Chris) Mobley, Leah Leeps, Zachary (Annie) Pollock, Eli (Mitchell Myre) Pollock, Jordan (Kayla) Pollock, Jenna (Evan Van Meeteren) Pollock, Andy (Jessica) Pollock, Alex (Carly) Pollock, Grant (Kristin) Pollock, Timothy Pollock, Mitchell (Rachel) Amundson, Mason (Laura) Amundson, Jory (Stefanie) Harris, Logan ( fiancée, Melissa Summaria) Harris, Celene Slifka, Sydney Slifka and Shay Slifka; 21 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Darrell (Heather) Slifka of State Center; sisters, Judy Nelson of Clermont and Sharon Becker of Elgin; and sister-in-law, Deon Schoenheider of Willowbrook, Ill.

 

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Pollock; son, Forrest “Frosty” Pollock; daughter, Cheryl Slifka; grandson, Forrest Pollock; daughter-in-law, Joan Pollock; brothers, Velder Schultz and Richard Schultz; and sister, Yvonne Landt. 

 

Visitation was on Nov. 26, at Illyria Community Church in Elgin. Funeral service was on Nov. 27, at Illyria Community Church in Elgin, with Pastor Pam Reinig as the officiant.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin is assisting the family with arrangements.
