Allen Edward Haars, 83, of Guttenberg passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club.

Allen was born on Jan. 18, 1938, in Urbana, son of Theodor and Frances Haars.

He graduated from Center Point High School in 1956. Following graduation, he married Joyce Duncan on Sept. 1, 1956. From this union one son, Mitch, was born. They later divorced.

Allen Married Karen Brislawn on Nov. 18, 1972. He then embraced four more children. Karen passed away on May 2, 2009.

Allen married Tami Schmitt on Oct. 15, 2011. He again embraced three more children.

Allen had many jobs over the years. He served two years in the Navy. He farmed for 23 years and was an elevator mechanic for 25 years.

Allen loved life on the river, boating and fishing and in his younger days water skiing. He also loved to play golf and spend his winters in sunny Florida. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Allen will forever be loved and cherished by his wife, Tami; four daughters, Laurie (Kevin) Saylor of Osborne, Kan., Donna Fisher of Clancy, Mont., Jill Oliveira of Bridgeport, Conn., Valerie (Aaron) Hettinger of Strawberry Point; two sons, Brian and T.J. Schmitt of Guttenberg; daughter-in-law, Terry Letts of Center Point; sister, Cindy Haars of Walker; sister-in-law, Mary (Joe) Mellon of Guttenberg; three brothers-in-law, Jerry Grishaber of Marion, Rollin (Sandy) Seifert and Bob (Mary) Seifert of Garnavillo; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Allen was preceded death by his parents; two sons, Mitch Haars and Paul Letts; two granddaughters, Cassandra Fisher, and Amy Goncalves; daughter-in-law, Cindy Haars; sister, Charlotte Grishaber and nephew, Brett O’Brien.

A special thanks to the Doctors, nurses and hospital staff who cared for Al at the Guttenberg hospital.
