The small community of Bagley has big things going on this year for the holidays.

An extra special Christmas tree stands in the center of what local residents lovingly call the “Bagley roundabout,” at the intersection of Bagley Avenue and Walnut Street. Though all sorts of Christmas trees have stood in that spot for the past 10 years, this one is built entirely from pieces of trees grown right there in Bagley.

According to village board member Rita Weber, the base of the tree is made from a real tree trunk. All other core parts of this monstrosity are constructed from trees—except for the strands of lights, of course.

Weber said Jason Udelhofen, a woodworker from Bagley, was involved from the beginning.

“He took the idea and ran with it,” she said. “It’s beautiful.”

The community officially lit the Christmas tree for the first time on Dec. 1. It will remain on display throughout the month.

It will certainly be in all its glory this Saturday, Dec. 11, for Christmas in Bagley, sponsored by the Bagley Chamber of Commerce.

From 3 to 7 p.m., there will be so much fun and festivities happening for families community-wide. All afternoon, everyone is welcome to enjoy a cookie walk at the Bagley Hotel, a silent auction at Timmer’s Bar, and craft and vendor tables at Luck O’ the Irish and the Bagley First Responder Building. A highlight of the event is a visit with Santa Claus at Bruggeman Tire from 4 to 6 p.m.

Christmas in Bagley will also feature a Tour of Homes, starting at the home of the Webers, 110 S. Bagley Ave. Admission is one bag of non-perishable food or coat drive items.

“We get quite a load of food really,” Weber said.

There will be tractor-pulled, covered wagon rides around town, thanks to Paul Graf. The rides will give people a look at the many homes participating in Bagley’s outdoor decorating contest.

Additionally, Luck o’ the Irish will host live music Saturday, and there will be a raffle for four $25 gift cards to local businesses.

“Proceeds from Christmas in Bagley will benefit Grant County’s Shop with a Cop program,” Weber added, noting that the project is to secure toys for kids and families in need for Christmas. In addition, the cookie walk proceeds will help support the Zion Lutheran Church.
