Allen L. Varo, 86, of Eastman, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa.

He was born Dec. 17, 1934, the son of Warren and Erma (Osthoff) Varo. He worked on the road for a few years before returning home to the Varo farm that has been in the family since 1865. He married Darlene Kramer on June 5, 1954, at the Seneca Methodist Church. Together, they farmed and raised their family in the Eastman area for many years. Al enjoyed the outdoors, trapping, hunting, and fishing. He shared these hobbies with his family and loved watching his sons Roger and Randy carry on these traditions. He was an avid follower of his daughter Renee’s music, taking any chance he could to see her play. He also enjoyed playing softball and bowling.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Darlene; their children, Roger (Mary Rose), Randy (Deb), and Renee (Joseph) Zanona; grandchildren, Tanner, Ellie, Wade, Grant, and Dylan Varo and Tyler Zanona; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Dale Varo and Joy Ann Sullivan.

According to Al’s wishes, a private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Campbell Cemetery in Eastman. The Garrity Funeral Home, of Prairie du Chien, is assisting the family.
