Jim Young said this duffel in his possession once belonged to Staff Sgt. Archie R. Tucker, who he believes had ties to Clayton County.

A Texas man is hoping to reunite a World War II soldier’s duffel bag with family who may live in Clayton County.

Jim Young, of Lago Vista, Texas, said the duffel once belonged to Staff Sgt. Archie R. Tucker, service number 37694829. Tucker enlisted in the Army on April 8, 1944, and Young said a search indicated he was from Clayton County, Iowa, and was at one time at Camp Dodge, Herrold, Iowa. His birth year was 1909.

“I’ve had this bag for many years, but can’t remember where I got it from. I used to attend flea markets and often bought military-related items,” Young shared. “I’ve always been interested in military things, including vehicles. We have a 1942 World War II Willys MB Army Jeep that I’m restoring.”

“I would like to return this World War II item to the Tucker family, if possible,” he added.

Young said the bag has some tags attached that were likely added when the duffel was shipped—maybe even after the war was over.

“I think one tag is dated April 1946,” he said. “It was pretty common for some soldiers to be discharged months after World War II ended.”

Anyone with information or potential contacts related to Tucker’s duffel bag are welcome to contact Jim Young at 7316 Tessera Pkwy., Lago Vista, TX 78645; youngjt2015@gmail.com or (512) 484-9703.
