Follow the Christmas star

It wouldn’t be Christmas in McGregor without Bob Eggen’s iconic lighted star.
Eggen, who’s now in his 90s, said the star—placed at the house peak with five long strands of lights cascading from it to the ground—has been placed on his Prospect Street home every year for as long as he can remember.
“I typically put it up Thanksgiving weekend with help from family.” How long it takes, he said, “depends on how much help.”
The home’s location makes the star visible from several spots throughout town.
“My daughter took me for a ride the other night and I got all the best views,” Eggen said. “And I go out every night and look at it. It’s something I’m very proud of.”
He’s happy others find joy in it as well.
“I’m glad other people notice it,” Eggen quipped. “It means a lot to me that other people think it’s nice.”
