Vern Quamme was called by Jesus to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Vern was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Prairie du Chien, to Eunice (Warren) and Sherman Quamme. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1962, and joined the U.S. Navy on June 13, 1962. He married Sharon A. Shulka on Oct. 16, 1965. They moved to Illinois where they raised their two daughters, Deb and Tammy. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Rockford Moose and Eagle’s Clubs. He retired from Belvidere Chrysler Assembly Plant. He had a fierce love for his family and friends, became a friend to everyone he met, and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends. He was a vintage car enthusiast, a lifelong Nascar fan, and an amazing mechanic who loved wrenching on anything with an engine. He also loved spending time on his farm with his family, and driving his tractors around with all of his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife Sharon; daughters, Deb (Derek) Dill and Tammy (Kevin) Smith; grandchildren, Matt (Stephanie) Cordonnier, Sarah (Ryley) Lott, Jessi (Phil) Sperling, Alex, Ryan and Lily Smith; great-grandchildren Samantha and Gabriel Cordonnier, Paisley Cordonnier and Brixon Lott, and Hunter and Elsie Sperling; brother, David Quamme; nieces, Andrea Genschaw and Amber Kuhnke, and many beloved cousins.

We would like to extend a sincere heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful ladies at Serenity Hospice for the exceptional, compassionate care they provided for our Dad!

A Memorial Service will be held on Jan. 29, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (3300 Rural St., Rockford, IL 61107). Immediately following the service, there will be a fellowship luncheon at the American Legion (1011 South Alpine Rd. Rockford, IL 61108).
