Larry Michael Kelchen, 68, of Strawberry Point, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque. He was born on Nov. 17, 1953, in Manchester, the son of Ernest and Irma (Maiers) Kelchen. He was raised and educated in the Manchester area and was a 1973 graduate of West Delaware High School.

 

In 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Linda Meyer in Dyersville. Two children, Keith and Kristy, were born to this union. The family owned and operated a dairy farm north of Edgewood. The couple later divorced. Larry was an insurance salesman for the Farm Bureau. He also coached girls basketball, volleyball, track, football and baseball for the Starmont School District. Recently, Larry worked with handicapped adults.

 

Larry was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago White Sox. Larry loved playing cards with several card clubs and his family. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

 

Survivors include his two children, Keith (Bree) Kelchen of Wildwood, Mo., and Kristy (Brent) Wegmann of Marion; four grandchildren, Paxton and Mahlia Wegmann and Luke and Jake Kelchen; three siblings, Steve (Mary) Kelchen of Anamosa, Debra (John) Leonard of Ryan and Kathy (Dan) Schmidt of Dyersville; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Marianna Kelchen; a brother, Randy Kelchen; and a sister, Lisa Kelchen-Rankin.

 

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, with Rev. Mary Green officiating.

 

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point.

 

Inurnment will be at a later date. 

 

Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are recommended at the funeral home.
