Bernard “Bernie” L. Haines, 93, of Clinton, and Friendship, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at Tomahawk Health Services, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice. 

Bernie was born in Soldiers Grove, on July 2, 1928, to the late Herbert and Clara (Craig) Haines. He was united in marriage to his loving and devoted wife, Mary Prohaska, on June 22, 1957, in Eastman; she preceded him in death on April 24, 2016.

Bernie graduated from the Wauzeka High School with the Class of 1946. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bernie and Mary resided in Eastman where their union was blessed with four children. They later moved to Minnesota for a short time. Bernie worked for many years at the Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere, Ill., retiring in 1991. In 1993, Bernie and Mary moved to Friendship. He was a member of the VFW in Clinton and also a member of the UAW (United Auto Workers). Bernie enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, gardening and yard work. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed helping his family with various projects. Bernie will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his son, Jeffrey (Kitrina) Haines; three daughters, Lani (Donald) Fridley, Diane Haines, and Trudy (Scott) Miller; two brothers, Terry (Shari) Haines, and Art (Sandy) Haines; three sisters, Ida Ward, Ruby Hay, and Darlene (Chris) Girton; and his cherished grandchildren, Jamie (Justin) Healy, and Christian (Rachael) Fridley. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Clara; his wife, Mary; Harley Haines, Ruth and Hogie Hogan, Linda and Gordon McCullick, and Tom and Joyce Haines, Leonard Ward, and Richard Hay.

A celebration of life for Bernard Haines will be held at the VFW located at 172 N. Linden St., Adams, on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. The family requests that you wear your favorite flannel shirt and jeans in honor of Bernie.
