Karen C. Fritsche
Karen C. Fritsche, 80, of Appleton and formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at Touchmark Care Center surrounded by her family in Appleton.
She was born Feb. 24, 1941, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Dresen) Ertz. She graduated the valedictorian of her class from Viterbo College in La Crosse, as a registered nurse. Karen married Robert Fritsche on Sept. 7, 1963, at St. Mary’s Church in Bloomington He preceded her in death on July 18, 1993. She worked at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital for many years, most notably as a cardiac rehabilitation specialist. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother and cherished her time with family.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Catherine Barrance), Mark (Beth) and Robert Fritsche, Kathleen (Stephen) Welter and Jennifer (Troy) Thompson; her brother, Maurice Ertz; her sister, Connie (John) Friske; along with eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Robert Ertz; and a granddaughter, Gabrielle Fritsche.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Sunday, Feb. 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. and on Monday, one hour prior to the Mass at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien.
