Eileen Louise (Fette) Peterson, 87, of Gunder, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born July 28, 1934, in Clayton County, to Albert and Rosina (Glawe) Fette. She attended St. Olaf Elementary School, transferred to Elkader and graduated with the Class of 1952.

 

Eileen worked at General Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis., for a time, then moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she met her husband. She was married to Warren Peterson May 4, 1957, at Norway Church, rural St Olaf. Seven children were born to this union. The couple moved back to Iowa in 1965, and Eileen went back to work at General Hospital in Prairie du Chien as a CNA, and she also worked as a waitress at the Kountry Manor Supper Club. She was employed at Swiss Valley Farms in Luana and Hopkinton for 19 years and retired as a lab tech. After they moved to Waterville, Minn., Eileen worked for Green Thumb.

 

Eileen kept busy by participating in card club, church activities, quilting, gardening and crocheting. She made wedding cakes for family and friends and enjoyed traveling many places, including Las Vegas and Jamacia. Eileen had a lifetime hobby of reading; you would always find a stack of books near her. She was an avid Vikings fan.

 

They ran a B&B in Hopkinton for a couple years then the couple retired to Waterville, Minn., where they enjoyed boating and fishing. They returned after Warren’s health concerns to live closer to children. After Warren passed, she moved to Gunder. Eileen enjoyed family, and she especially loved her grandchildren.

 

She is survived by her children, Gordon Peterson, Gunder, David Peterson, Clermont, Wendy (Kevin) Peterson, Gunder, Scott (Penny) Peterson, Farmersburg, Brenda (Jeff) Pfister, Gunder, Gary (Susan) Peterson, Hopkinton, and Cheryl (Dennis) Wilson, Delhi; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Peggy) Fette, New London, Wis., and Richard (Diane) Fette, Volga;  sister-in-law, Verna Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn.; several nieces, nephews and numerous friends she made through all stages of life. 

 

Visitation was on Feb. 17, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. Funeral service was on Feb. 18, at Norway Lutheran Church, with Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating. Interment was at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Olaf.

 

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family.
