Stephanie Ann Cunningham was born on July 4, 1973, in West Union, the daughter of John Michael and Dawn Renae (Rau) Cunningham. She was baptized and confirmed at Elgin Lutheran Church. Her family remembers her growing up in the rolling hills around Elgin as a tomboy with a big smile on her face. Steph enjoyed softball, basketball and her many years attending the Fayette County Fair, where she earned the title of Junior Showman. She received her education at Valley of Elgin Schools until the family moved to Nebraska in 1987. Steph completed her high school education and graduated from Milford High School in Milford, Neb., in the class of 1991. She continued her education at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Neb., where she earned her associate degree and her L.P.N. degree in 1994. Steph then began her lifelong career of caring for the elderly.

Steph’s life was blessed by being the mother of her three children: Kaylee, Lukas and Aimee. She was a role model for them and loved them dearly. Steph spent time with her two brothers, making many wonderful memories. She always told her dad that he was her best friend. Steph moved back to the Cunningham Family Farm, northeast of Arlington, four years ago. She loved all the time she spent outdoors at the farm, enjoying each season. Music was a huge part of Steph’s life, and she was an accomplished pianist. She was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa State Cyclones. Steph also enjoyed trips to the mountains to ski and to enjoy the trees. Steph will be missed immensely by her family and many friends.

Stephanie is survived by her three children: Kaylee Peterson of Kendall, Wis., Lukas Peterson of Arlington and Aimee Cunningham of Arlington; parents: John and Dawn Cunningham of Elkader; two brothers: Matt Cunningham of Elkader and Mike (Andrea) Cunningham of Maryville, Mo.; six nieces and nephews: Paige, Kirsten and Jacob and Trevin, Alyssa Mae and Alex; five aunts and uncles: Debra (Robert) Huck of Wadena, Detra (Terry) Warren of Mitchellville and Darla Rau of Altoona; six first cousins; special family members: Meri Ann (Kim) Klocke of Arlington; and Steph’s dog: Cooper.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Michael and Helene Cunningham, and maternal grandparents, Duwain and Ilo Mae Rau.
