Elkader native Nicholas (Nick) J. Niemeyer, 72, died of cancer on March 3, 2022, at a hospice center in San Francisco.

 

Nick was born Sept. 4, 1949, the fourth of five children of Norbert and Myrtle (Conboy) Niemeyer. After being graduated from Central Community School in Elkader and the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Law at the University of Iowa, he held an editorial position at the Little, Brown and Company publishers in Boston for many years; subsequently, he moved to San Francisco and represented the publishing organization Annual Reviews.

 

Nick was preceded in death by his parents and his partner, David Solari. He is survived by his four siblings: John (Mary Fran), Iowa City;  Ann (Gary Glenn), DeKalb, Ill.; Mary (Don Harstad), Elkader; and Sue Bryant, Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends Andrea Lopez, James Wilkie and others. Services will be private.
